Squee!
Tidemark won me a banner at
romancingwizard! I'm really happy that it has been so well-received - it does make me feel eager to write again :-). It is nice to be able to upload a new story to my archive accounts... At FA and Petulant Poetess it is still pending, but at Occlumency it is already up,
here.

Date: Thursday, 28 February 2008 09:04 pm (UTC)I did have a question for you, though, and it's one of pure curiosity. Do you ever feel like you have an...obligation (for lack of a better word) to acknowledge Snily? I know you've said that you're most comfortable staying as close to canon as you can manage, and I definitely understand that since I often feel that way myself. But I'm wondering why it is that someone like me, who also tends to at least use canon as a guide (sometimes even the bits I dislike), feels absolutely no need to concede Snily in my stories. I don't think it can be simply that I loathe the ship. Maybe you have some insight?

Date: Friday, 29 February 2008 12:42 am (UTC)I am more or less forced to confront Snily because I write Snape/Brynhild. I don't feel as if I can ignore Snape's obsession with one woman when shipping him with another who isn't even canonical. In fact it makes the new relationship more interesting, I think, because it allows me to explore just why Snape gets involved with Brynhild at all and how his relationship with her differs from that with Lily. Before Snily was official, I gave him a huge unrequited crush on Narcissa Black, which I still think is much more plausible than a crush on Lily Evans - but the effect was very similar. Only, because Lily is dead, that makes the challenge for Brynhild so much the greater - a dead woman is easily idealised.
Still, I do expect to have more problems when I tackle the Snily thing in its own right, as I would have to do in my projected teen!Snape fic... In any case, I don't see how I could possibly pretend it wasn't there :/.

Date: Friday, 29 February 2008 02:00 am (UTC)It must be the stubborn child in me who is crossing her arms, stamping her foot and wearing a scowl that says, "That's exactly what I intend to do!" Heh.
::forlorn sigh::
When I think about it, there were 1 or 2 WIPs I had going pre-DH that alluded to Snily in one form or another. So it's not like I wasn't prepared, or hadn't considered it. I think what I wasn't prepared for was how it changed my love of Snape, which was so unacceptable to me that I just chucked the whole idea rather than sacrifice even one iota of admiration for Snape. Which makes me a little ashamed, since I like to think of myself as someone who prefers truth over bliss. And I've tried to incorporate it without sacrificing anything; I wrote a trio of drabbles not long ago, one of which featured Snily. But ergh, what we were given...the image of Snape sobbing over a photo of Lily still repulses me. I guess it wasn't so much the ship itself, but how it was painted that disgusted me so much. So maybe the same colours in the hands of a different artist will paint a much more aesthetically pleasing picture.
Anyway, I'm at least happy to see you working through this to a place where you can enjoy writing Snape again. :)
