Here is my first piece of post-DH fanart.

I was at Sectus last week, in the company of [livejournal.com profile] _vocalion_ who, as some of you already know, is a darling. She made me a present of a rather elaborate set of graphite pencils (yay!) and several charcoal pencils (more yay!). I sort of took that as a hint ;P, and drew the first picture I had set my mind on while reading Deathly Hallows. It is dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] _vocalion_, with sincere thanks for the present, for a wonderful week, and for her comfort during DH-related crises.

The title is taken from DH, but I doubt the picture will spoil the book for anyone :-).

I felt like trying out the charcoal pencils first, and used a piece of yellowed scrap paper to draw on; somehow that seemed fitting for a slightly grubby young Snape. For future projects I should get myself some coloured paper with a nice texture - just about all of my drawing paper is white, and that is obviously not suitable to any picture I want to highten with white :-). Squee! I rather love this new medium; the pencils are charcoal, but rather smooth, which suits me very well :D.

*hugs [livejournal.com profile] _vocalion_*

I loves it. Seriously, you should have done the HP art work. Like, 759 pages of it. with a different script. And without the Trio in it. Or Voldemort. Or Dumbledore. Or the Weasleys. Only Snape, even if he doesn't do anything but stand around smoking pot. I would enjoy your version much much more.

;P

Thanks very much! I am very busy with RL work now, but when the worst of that is over, I would like to write a Snape version of DH, with pictures. We'll see :-).

*waves* Hiya!

So we finally met at last...! (After about 4 years...LOL)

You know I had quite a bit of trouble imagining the "smock" type shirt he wears. He certainly looks sufficiently scruffy in your pic. :D

I haven't tried to draw Snape since that little art lesson. Heh, maybe I should...

Yes, you should!

You will have gathered from my previous post that I am not exactly over the moon with DH, but it does seem to rather inspire me picture-wise. There are a lot of lovely images in it.

Must learn how to draw does, though :P.

No wonder he's cranky with that shirt! It's the wizarding world's version of the puffy shirt.
Another interesting Snape!

Glad you like him!

I actually love this kind of shirt, but I have no trouble imagining that a boy would be terribly embarrassed wearing one...

The tv show Seinfeld had an episode where Jerry is forced to wear a puffy shirt for an interview on the Today Show. Link.

(I love all your art! *hugs*)

Oooh, I like. That shirt reminds me of bad wedding tuxedo shirts.

So, do you think it was simply poverty or confusion about how muggles dress that lead to his childhood wardrobe?

My guess is it's poverty. After all, Severus has a Muggle father and lives in a Muggle neighbourhood; he'd know how Muggles dress, I think. Also, Snape's trousers are too short and his coat far too large, which suggests lack of money to buy new things that actually fit.

Poor boy. Lily, James and Sirius were so pampered.

My first thoughts when I read that passage were "OMG just like Harry used to wear oversized clothes!" And again the parallels between Harry, Voldemort and Snape continue... ::sigh::

Your lovely picture just makes me want to hug him. ♥ (Not that he'd like that. :P)

(No, alas, I don't think he would.)

Oh, how I wish those parallels had been more highlighted... A confrontation between Harry and a Snape capable of speech... Anything... Or the parallels between Snape and Dumbledore...

Okay, I'll go ficcing now.

A confrontation between Harry and a Snape capable of speech

LOL!

But you really should go ficcing! Snape needs us now more than ever! I already have 2000 words of my Harry & Snape gen AU of DH. :) Of course, everyone else probably has the same AU idea as me... :P

I'm glad he's still around in your art at least. :)

Hi
I love it, I like the resentful look in his eyes, you can just tell this little one has had a bad time. I liked your thoughts in DH too- well put thanks!

OH! What a lovely surprise to wake up to! The gift was meant as an encouragement for you to continue drawing Snape, no matter what the outcome of DH. What a loss it would be to the fandom without your vision of him.

I love his bitter expression, and I'm honored to be the first recipient of one of your post DH drawings.

Thank you, sigune!

*hugs*

(Meh. I think portraits won't do the trick with Steve, and by the time I've done something else, other artists will have filled the pages... ;_; But hey, I'd rather you like the pictures than Steve XD!)

You are flattering me awfully - but you see that the gift is doing its job: two pictures in a few days, and me with no stomach for my urgent rl work because I want to draw more ;P... Must. Forget. DH. From. August 1st. *irons hands*

Heh - of course you may; make yourself at home :D.

Glad you like the picture! I am not entirely sure that this is the kind of shirt that JKR had in mind when she described it as a smock, but I hope I'm close enough ;-).

Thank you! I was so happy to see this (and I simply cannot understand people with no compassion for Severus, especially as a little boy. That includes you, J.K> Rowling! Grr!). Not that he's a cuddly little boy - a bit scary, in fact. ) I love his mouth and eyebrows, and the hair, and the blouse -

Beautiful. I loved the rumpled collar, the expression on his face. It makes me heartsick though, because he's so young and he already looks like he knows what he is in for...

We missed you too, at Sectus and after :(. But at least we're all drawing pictures ;-). The pencils are great; I have another picture in mind that I am itching to draw with them...

Alas, poor Snape. As I said above, his misadventures, though ( - because?) sad, are strangely inspiring.

He's cheerful occasionally in the books....admittedly normally when he's punishing Harry or some other silly wee child. Although I do know what you mean...I imagine it as a sort of lopsided sneer as I don't think he can actually smile properly.

As usual- you've done a brilliant job on the highlights as well.

I love this portrait and I'm amazed that you could draw it so soon after DH and your essay about the book. How you can be so emotional and coherent at the same time is beyond me. Not only did you write what I was thinking, but you thought of much more than I did.

I just watched another JKR interview yesterday, and a different impression of Snape came out of it. Only saw partial transcripts of an earlier one. Have you started a re-read?

I am reading the book to my sister (it's become a kind of tradition), but I'm longing to read on a little faster. I have already thought of a few useful loopholes to fic 'my' Snape within canon; at this point I'm wondering whether or not I should let him live :P...

It's a funny thing with DH; although I didn't like the book, I do find it very inspiring in terms of drawing (and someday, hopefully, fic). That is probably why I still remain coherent despite my strong feeling of disappointment :D. DH is not a good novel, but it's great ficcing/art material *g*.

I'm trying to catch up on my e-mail, but I'm not making much progress - I'm very sorry for the delay. I'll reply soon!

Yay! I've been waiting to see DH art that includes The Smock of Doom (tm). And wow; that's a new look for you. I see hints of "your" Snape in the eyes, nose and chin, but you made some changes that I like. He looks- well- more realistic? I love the hair and eyes.
