I'm happy to say the awarding of the oscars has completely passed me by - I was too busy working. If I had listened to the radio I would have gone completely bonkers: I have developed a sixth sense that makes me snap out of whatever I am doing when I hear the words 'Oscar' or 'Wilde'; I simply must pick up every bit of info. This time of year that can be something of a nuisance, as my sensors go in overdrive for nothing :D.

lol - I also got some words I cannot hear without paying attention: "fiddle", "orchestra", "snape", "chamber (music of)" - these ones makes me leap! :p

Forgot to send you this link earlier Sigune. Don't know if you're interested, but BBC radio are making available via 'Listen Again' a reading of Oscar Wilde's letters (read by the excellent Simon Callow) for a short while only (1 week per episode). I know you're a big fan of his correspondence.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/listenagain/tuesday/

Spool down to 'The Letters of Oscar Wilde' 11.30. Click on 'Listen Again'. Episode 2 of 5 now online (15 min each). More episodes each week. Sorry I missed the first one for you.

They also have a dramatisation of his trial on at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/listenagain/saturday/

Episode 1 of 2 (1 1/2 hrs)
Again, it won't be online for long. Part 2 next week.

Oh! Thanks so much! - I'm currently working on a computer that has no speakers, but I'll listen to the letters and the trial as soon as I can.

Wilde is one of those authors who have a knack for writing things in a way that sounds good; I'm sure he read his own stuff out loud. And his letters are sparkling; reading a collection of them is quite as much fun as reading a good novel! At least, that's my opinion :-).

I have just been studying the trial transcripts (recently published as Irish Peacock and Scarlet Marquess: the Real Trial of Oscar Wilde by Merlin Holland at Fourth Estate); if you want to see how misplaced wit can be, I can recommend this to you :D. I look forward to hearing it dramatised!

And the oscar goes to
