Wilde is one of those authors who have a knack for writing things in a way that sounds good; I'm sure he read his own stuff out loud. And his letters are sparkling; reading a collection of them is quite as much fun as reading a good novel! At least, that's my opinion :-).
I have just been studying the trial transcripts (recently published as Irish Peacock and Scarlet Marquess: the Real Trial of Oscar Wilde by Merlin Holland at Fourth Estate); if you want to see how misplaced wit can be, I can recommend this to you :D. I look forward to hearing it dramatised!
