Whew! I had to start this picture all over - I inked it with my brush pen and then saw that all sorts of things were wrong with it :P. I redrew it with my Staedtler pens and got a much more pleasing result, also in terms of details.

I know that people like my black-and-white pictures better than the colour ones, but the scene I drew here is a nocturnal one and I thought it would look like a large ink blot if I tried to keep it in b/w. This turned into another experiment, and I'm not displeased with the final result. More important, though, is the question whether [livejournal.com profile] mary_j_59 is happy with it, because this was done for her, for [livejournal.com profile] snapedom's Summer Fest. It's an illustration of her story All Hallow's Eve.

Lovely! I love the dark areas. Smashing job.

Thank you! :D I'm really glad you like it. It probably sounds ridiculous, but dark areas always make me nervous. I'm too conscious of the fact that once the ink goes onto the paper, it's there to stay, and it's impossible to correct, especially if I'm going to paint over it...

I may bother you soon for help with another picture, but if it's bother bother, feel free to ignore me ;-).

Getting ideas for yours, btw. The perspective will take some working out, and I'm still such a newbie, but I'll find a way *g*.

I know what you mean about the frightening permanency of ink. I was actually thinking of breaking out my Staedtlers after soooo many years, but I'll probably chicken out.
I'd be more than happy to take a look at your next picture!
I have my idea for our exchange but I know it'll stay looking OK in my head right right up until the point I start sketching and then it'll go rapidly downhill hahaha!

Thanks!

I'm not making your deadline with the Berlin saga :/. These last few weeks I have been working very long days, and I'm just too tired to write on the train. I've slept instead :(. But I sense some ideas coming! I have to overcome the hurdle of Snape's first meeting with the Ministerin - that has to be really good, and I guess I'm scared...

If I'm honest I had forgotten about my deadline. Ideas are good. They are what I'm usually lacking. I usually only have the vague feeling that it would be nice to write something. I hope you'll find a way to overcome that hurdle - no matter when.

It's incredibly wrong of me to think only of licking the cut on his face, right?

*stares*

*furiously wipes drool off keyboard*

I like your black and whites best, but I'm beginning to like your colours a heck of a lot too. Look at all that beautiful purple!

Heh. Yes, I guess that is rather wrong of you ;P...

I'm so glad you like it! I know I'm not exactly brilliant at colour, but I also know that I'm improving, so I don't think I should stop trying.

Also, and this is a painful reason: it simply takes MUCH less time to cover a large area with paint than it does to cross-hatch it. Inking an A4 takes me two weeks now, when I'm lucky :(. Anyway, my next picture is scheduled to be a black-and-white one, and at least I have learnt to cover large black surfaces with Chinese ink and a brush...

No, don't stop trying! Even if your strengths are still with the darker, cooler colours, I have every confidence you will master the entire spectrum.

Ooh, I love your black and whites when it's brush-inking!

D: omg cross-hatching. Tried a few times, then just never had the patience. Seems so many of my ink drawings have big negative spaces xD

You've excelled yourself with the watercolour, I especially like how you did the subtle colours in the sky. Excelelnt job.

Thank you! :D

I was extremely nervous about the sky and kept it for last - not sure that is clever, but... *g* In the end I painted it really quickly, wet on wet - it was fun.

Maybe I'll get there one day... :-)

Wet on wet is a good technique with watercolour, & your already pretty good way along the road ;)

Wow, I love it! Although I like your b&w-pictures best, too, I think you did an excellent job on the colours here!
Snape's expression is great and he looks so protective... great atmosphere!

Thank you! I had a good look at Marini's night scenes ;-) - not that I'd pretend to get anywhere near them (*sigh*). It's really strange to try and create a different kind of light with colour, though I suppose that for people who have experience with it, it's rather self-evident. It was great fun to do.
