I was catching up on the last three chapters of [livejournal.com profile] _grainne_'s intriguing story Insidious last Tuesday and found myself once more totally absorbed in it. It's utterly brilliant and I'm in love with it. Unfortunately I am the lousiest reviewer ever, so, um, I tend to fail abysmally at letting [livejournal.com profile] _grainne_ know 1) that I am reading the story avidly; and 2) how and why I think it so wonderful and clever and aesthetically pleasing and stuff.

But - the story's depiction of Snape inspired me to do pictures, three slight variations on one theme, and I lay them at [livejournal.com profile] _grainne_'s feet as a humble sacrifice to the genius of her Snapefic. *bows reverently*

All rated G, and no warnings.

(I'm not so happy with this one, but I do like the dark washes. It's not bad, perhaps, but it's not what I wanted it to be.)

(I like this one better. I would, wouldn't I, as it's monochrome... :P It was painted right after the first one and without any pencil sketch. I'm happy with the brushwork.)

(Playing with my new toys: a Koh-i-Noor art set. The result is my first ever charcoal picture :-). This is charcoal + black pencil + progresso pencil. It was purely done for the lines around the eyes, actually...)

Thank you!

I adore drawing with brushes, but I had to do the more conventional first picture first in order to know how to make the second work. According to the rules of Japanese painting, that shouldn't be necessary. I obviously don't meditate enough! :D

Oh, that is such an awesome story! Grainne does such an awesome job of showing so much of Snape, but also so little! I love the mystery and just seeing Snape out in the world.

And your drawings are lovely as always; I especially like the first one!

I'm glad you like them :D. I hadn't done any Snape pictures in a while, but Grainne's story just... It touches me in all sorts of ways, and her Snape is everything I love about canon Snape and more. So off I went... :)

I still owe you a card, lovely Luna, in return for the one you sent me from California. I was so happy when it arrived! :D *huggles*

You should! It's grand, and all sorts of superlatives of grandness :).

Positively stunning! I think I like the first one the best, in spite of the fact that you don't. They are all so intense and brooding.

I R&R'd several chapters of [livejournal.com profile] grainne's story, and I really must go and catch back up on things. I'm ashamed to say it, but now that SH has moved back "home," I think I'll be more likely to read there. (That's no slight to you, [livejournal.com profile] grainne. I'm just a lazy, impatient person, and the other system was soooo slooooow.)

Heh. I agree about SH - I like the small scale better :).

Glad you like the pictures! It's funny - I thought the first one a failure at first, but then it dried up and the colours in the face became paler, and I thought it wasn't too bad after all :D. I guess I just miss some of the sharpness that I like to associate with Snape, and I will always like stark lines better than outlines defined by colour. That's a very personal preference. I'll keep yours in mind for your picture :).

BTW, check my LJ as I've posted some scans from a book about sailing. They are purely for inspiration, of course. They inspire me and I thought you might be interested as well. ;)

Merci beaucoup! *grins*

*weeps in gratitude*

To even know that you have read and liked my story makes me all kinds of aw-shucks-blushy-happy-nervous [you may want to take back that "brilliant" once you've read the end *g*], but to have had any part in inspiring you to make Snape art... words fail me, so I'll just... :-D SQUEEEE!!!! :-D

Ahem.

These are gorgeous Sigune. I'll be more articulate later, but for now just let me bow reverently back at you and say you've actually made me cry--in a happy way of course! May I beg scans of these to print out for my own viewing pleasure?

And now I swear I will stop peeking at LJ and get busy preparing final chapters to send off to beta

I'm so happy you like them! I am awfully bad at articulating what makes me squee about stories, so if I can sort of make up for that in this way... :) I hadn't done any Snape pictures in what seems like ages, but reading your last chapters made my mind and my fingers ache :D. Insidious is so - well, I ♥ it very much and I'm sure I will still do so when I've read the end :P. As I said to Lunafish above, your depiction of Snape has everything that drew me to him in canon, and all sorts of little things that canon doesn't take the time to show us. And I cuddle your Tobias *g*. It's the way you create your characters and give them depth at the hand of small, subtle, recognisable things that does it for me, I think.

Um, yes, scans. I have them at 200 ppi, but maybe I should make some 300 ppi if you want to print them. I'll take care of it :).

Thank goodness I saw this entry or I wouldn't have known a new chapter had posted! I guess the old SH system doesn't support the Owl notifications.

This fan of Fleagle must read the latest chapter as soon as she gets the chance. I agree with sigune. The story is indeed brilliant. But, since I am not an artist, I can only send virtual Huntsman cheese. :-D

Lovely work, sigune. I love all three. I think any watercolours or pen and ink drawings similar to these would be perfect for Sectus. Your first charcoal sketch turned out very well. All I've ever been able to do with charcoal is make a mess all over my hands and clothes. :-)

Charcoal is a mess - it was all over my hands and desk when I was working XD. In fact I'd promised myself never to use it, but it has a professional aura about it and the box was pretty cheap so I couldn't resist ;P. Not that the result looks professional, but...

Sectus. Yes, I thought I might go for paint instead of ink after all (there's something so very enjoyable about working with brushes and water) - though being who I am, I may still change my mind *g*.

No, Occlumency doesn't notify of updates. I was three chapters behind! Reading them one after the other made me realise that I must re-read the whole story when it is ready, after my HI marathon :D...

Impressive

I have no patience or knowledge for fics, but pics all the more.
The second one is a stunning piece of your amateur professionalism.
Great stuff!
Be seeing you

Thank you!

I have to admit I'm a little bit proud of the second one - it's a bit like a better version of this one (http://pics.livejournal.com/sigune/pic/000423zx/g1) because it was better thought out. This is almost sumi-e, the art of Japanese painting that I find incredibly beautiful and intend to pursue further...

(That reminds me I still haven't shown you the painting I bought in China - it's that style too, though with two colours, and it's smooch-worthy.)

I'll see you next week, then...?

Yea, next week.
Keep those fingers crossed for later today yeah?
We'll see whether we'll be broke yet richer 1 house, or just
disappointed for the nth time.
I'd put money on option two, but weirder things've happened.
be seeing you
