The reveals are up at hoggywartyxmas, so I can make a clean breast of the fact that I drew Peace on Earth; or, That Christmas with the Carrows.

Date: Thursday, 10 January 2019 06:06 pm (UTC)I love looking at the image of Severus Snape contemplating his fate. The wee snake clasp is a beautiful detail.
Unless it is an artist's secret or a really stupid question, is there a reason you use green (or is it blue) for some of the (prepatory?) sketching?
I love your art and the style you draw in so much.

Date: Thursday, 10 January 2019 10:55 pm (UTC)It's neither a secret nor a stupid question XD. I'd have to check, but I think that originally, this was an animator thing, because this is a "non-repro blue" pencil that should (almost) not show up on camera or when photocopied. It should also be easily removable digitally. As you can tell, I don't much bother with removing it :p.
I have discovered quite recently that it's nice to sketch in a light colour while searching for the right lines, and then 'ink' the correct lines with a regular pencil. You don't have to erase (which is soft on the paper) and your final lines look clean. When I use my light table to transfer a sketch to another sheet of paper, the blue sketch lines don't distract from the lines I need. Also, had I wanted to use my pencil lines as 'inks' in the final image, I could have cleaned them up by removing the non-repro blue digitally.
A friend made me a gift of a non-repro blue pencil years ago, but I never dared to use it was jyst the one and I couldn't find any in local shops... He got his in the States, and indeed, I'd never seen them sold outside of the USA! But the pencil I used here is a Caran d'Ache that I bought locally - finally, they have arrived! So now I can use them without having to worry that I'm using up my One And Unique Blue Pencil ;-).

Date: Saturday, 19 January 2019 05:17 pm (UTC)It's difficult to express just how much I love drawing Snape and imagining (mostly annoying) situations to put him in, and it always makes me intensely happy to hear that the result gives other people joy too :D...
