Hoggywarty recs! plus sketchies

Hello hello, happy new year everybody!

I do wish my first post of the year could be one with new drawings, but the thing is, though I have been very productive in December, I don't have anything to show for it as everything is tied up in fests. I did a Big Thing for Hoggywarty and two pictures for Snapecase - in fact I have committed to do a third as a pinch-hit. I do have a few sketches to share (and again, lots more that I can't, because they concern my fest entries).

Hoggywarty Christmas is still at full swing over at hoggywartyxmas, so I have come bearings some recs; these are my favourites so far.

So Bracing (PG-13, 9225 words), by Anonymous, is the tale of how Tom, landlord of the Leaky Cauldron, uses his wisdom and extensive experience as a barman to fix the lives of the Hogwarts Headmistress and a fellow barman in Skegness. Delightful, beautifully crafted, clever and wise. Don't miss the conversation with the mirror.

Friends, Teachers, Countrymen (R, 3700 words), by Anonymous, is the achingly perfect tale of Severus Snape's staff Christmas party during his year as Headmaster. It is very Snape (the worst and the best of him), therefore it made me cry.

Hiring Defense Against the Dark Arts Teachers and Other Unforgivable Acts (PG, 3630 words) by Anonymous. I may be a bit biased here because this is my gift, based on a prompt that I'd wanted to read for a long time :D. We finally get to see what went on behind closed doors, when a new DADA teacher must be found. The story is delightfully understated, with a perfect Dumbledore, Snape and McGonagall, and an ending that - well, I shouldn't give that away.

Love Hides in Familiar Faces (G, 4300 words), by Anonymous, is a beautifully-crafted fairytale in which Minerva McGonagall, Filius Flitwick, Severus Snape and Horace Slughorn receive a helping ... hand ... from an unexpected party. Lovely and heart-warming.

Exploding Crackers (G) is, very simply, an exquisite (animated!) Christmas picture by an artist whose anonymity I must uphold even though I'd know them anywhere :P. Enjoy!

Obviously he's in a cardigan because it gets colder in the dungeons, as one turns older (that would be 57 in a week, Professor?)

And I love the way he holds the children in the train - and the shiny robe! :D

But, I wanted to ask you... Happy Snape week? You had me almost tempted. Almost.

I do wonder if I haven't made a gross exaggeration by giving Snape four children. A few years ago, I thought two was really the limit :p.

No, no, in my headcanon, Snape is no longer living in a dungeon nowadays. He lives in a comfortable house and his study is in the attic. Of course you have no way of knowing this because I haven't enough Story/Plot to write it all down...

"Happy Snape Week" runs from 9 to 16 January and IF YOU CARE ABOUT OUR SEVERUS YOU SHOULD TOTALLY SUBMIT SOMETHING ;). Entries (from fic over art to headcanon text posts) to be submitred to happy-snape-week on Tumblr...

I seemed to remember that he had two children - at a first glance, I took Alba for Brynhild, but the dark hair didn't add up. Thankfully I read the caption before writing something stupid.

I googled Happy Snape Week after reading your comment on Hoggywarty, and it would be a nice idea if all I wanted right now wasn't to go back to reading Doctor Zivago and forget about Potterverse for a while. Or if I had the time, that is.

Not to coerce you or anything (seriously! I'm not going to fault you for having self-control!), but the submissions don't have to be new. So if you happen to have a happy Snape lying around, that's the week to re-post him ;).

-Yes, it used to be just Alba and Xander, but then I started to come up with all sorts of reasons why Snape might want more :p.
I used to draw Alba with a dark version of Brynhild's hair, but nowadays she looks more like her dad (or she uncurls her hair, I'm not sure which...).

The changes to my headcanon are many. I'm surprised at myself XD...
