Today is a lovely day, so I have been lazy. I have worked pretty hard last week, so I intend to be lazy all weekend. Mwuahahaha! If I say "lazy", I mean that I hope to get some Gawain-related stuff done. I was so tired last week due to lack of sleep that I didn't have the energy to draw new layouts on the train; that means I'm behind. Need to remedy. I have also bought an A4-sized watercolour Moleskine that I intend specifically for character designs. If all goes well, I'll fix Uther's design for SoK on Sunday. Then maybe I can finally get a move on with my SoK pages. *rolls eyes at self*
Well, on to the new pages. You will be meeting Gawain's entire family in the next few instalments, simply because it's important that you know them :-). But don't worry, I'll be getting to the point. Eeventually ;P.
Concrit = welcome, as always.
What went before
The kings of Britain are meeting in King Lot's stronghold. Uriens of Gorre is one of them, and he has brought a little boy with him in whom Morgana shows an interest...

Date: Saturday, 9 April 2011 07:24 pm (UTC)1) are you offended if I say "slash, slash!"?
2) I love Owain. He reminds me of Jibras, from the Asanor crew.
3) I forgot what SoK stands for (please, forgive me).
4) Do we already know something about Gawain's parents? I mean, she is Morgause and he is Lot. But did we see them interacting? (forgive me if this happened and I forgot).
5) Something I don't understand. Does Gawain go each day, or every few days at the convent for his education, and then goes back to his father's house? Or does he live at the convent? Because from the text I got the impression that he goes back to his father's house every now and then, but we have never seen he returning home, haven't we?
(general squee for Owain ensues)

Date: Saturday, 9 April 2011 10:28 pm (UTC)2) LOL!
3) "Sword of Kings" - the short interlude where Uther plants the sword in the stone. It's not that memorable :P.
4) Nope, you haven't seen them yet - you have only seen Lot shamelessly coming on to his sister-in-law. But you'll see Lot + Morgause soon enough. Morgana is just much more important in my story than Morgause, certainly at the beginning, so she has been introduced first.
5) Gawain goes to the convent every day for his classes. Since he's a little Irishman, he has started combat training at the age of seven, and that training happens at home (= Lot's fortress). So he "commutes" between the convent and the fortress every day. Conveniently - I hope to be able to bring this up at some point - the convent doesn't have a fixed spot. It moves around. That is to say, you can enter it from anywhere, provided Morgana allows you to. So it's never a long walk for Gawain. - If you've never seen him walk home before, it is because he hasn't had the opportunity before in the story. You've only seen him a) arrive for the first time and b) take lessons.
Let's see if the squee for Owain continues... :-)

Date: Sunday, 10 April 2011 07:21 am (UTC)I don't know anything about Owain's character, so I'm ready to be surprised by whatever happens with him...

Date: Sunday, 10 April 2011 09:15 pm (UTC)If the name hadn't already been taken, I could have called my comic "Family Man". Gawain is very fond of and very protective of his family. If you see Gawain/Owain slash potential (mind you, Gauvain/Yvain is my Kaamelott ship, if only for fun), then I predict that you're also going to detect Gawain/Gaheris, Gawain/Agravain and Gawain/Arthur in the future :P.

Date: Sunday, 10 April 2011 09:40 pm (UTC)I didn't remember Owain was Morgana's son. I actually forgot she was given in marriage to Uriens. But things seem a little complicated, aren't they? Uriens and Morgana's must not have been a happy union. How could she return to the convent? Are they "divorced", somehow?
I've already told you I'm not that expert in Arthuriana ;) I know only little about Ywain, and I hadn't spotted his name behind "Owain". He's called Ivano in Italian.

Date: Monday, 11 April 2011 08:10 am (UTC)I don't think the Morgana/Uriens thing is complicated. But you'll have to be patient a while longer - I've barely started teling my story! :-)
