LJ/IJ

Oh, great.

That's one week I have been AWOL, and the whole LJ thing has started again. A considerable number of my closest LJ friends seem to be moving, or have already moved, to IJ, right at the time when I must decide whether or not to renew my LJ paid account. Kewl.

I still think IJ is butt-ugly, I still hate the stoopid grinning head, I still object to the 'insane' thing, and I am still incapable of getting the IJ layouts to cooperate.

Oh, and my IJ has only a tiny fraction of the watchers my LJ has, so yay, I would have to start anew.

I don't feel like thinking about this now. I'm tired from work.

Great, LJ and SUP. Really, great.

I have an IJ account too and I agree with you on all accounts...from butt-ugliness to dead-boring layouts! Anyway, I think I´ll still be around on LJ, this after all is my first home ;)
Sweet dreams

And if you go away for another week, it will all blow over. I think there's a lot of Chicken Littles about ("the sky is falling! the sky is falling!")... and how long will it be before they start complaining about IJ?

I don't object to the insane thing and I could live with the ugly smily, but I just don't get along with ij... there is so much missing, the possibility to easily choose to only read the journals from your flist for example, little things like that. And lj is just bigger and therefore has more possibilities and interactions. It's really a hassle to move anyway... :/

Yeah, I'm lazy, but this is meant to be for fun.

I think that entire "affair" was blown up out of proportion. Since when isn't it allowed that a company changes its TOS for future customers? For everyone who already has an LJ - unpaid or paid - nothing will change. Only new subscribers will have to accept ads or else pay.

Well, and about the most popular interests. I didn't even know that the list exists. True, it's a bit sad that SUP deleted some interests, but they put them up again very quickly.

I agree with you that IJ is truly ugly, and the words "insane" and "asylum" don't sit well with me, too. Apart from that, I'm still not convinced that similar things won't happen at IJ as well. Sooner or later the owner will want to make money as well and will bow down to potential advertising customers or other business partners.

I don't like IJ either, for the reasons you stated.

I'll be sticking around LJ -- there are many more interests and communities here that I want to follow.

I, too, agree with you, and I'm also sticking around. I'll be getting Snapedom feeds, since they moved over there, and got myself an account so I could comment, but I'm not moving. Too complicated. And yes, that head and the layout is ugly!

Absolutely. I totally agree. It wasn't quite a fuss about nothing, but it was about as close to a fuss about nothing as you can get.

I'm just about to renew my Live Journal paid account. Live Journal is still a terrific place with terrific people. It has an interface and a structure that works. I think we need to hear more emphasis on what's good about LJ, and we need people to concentrate more on posting and more on what LJ is really about - which is having fun!

I have an IJ account, but have done nothing with it. I created it mostly to claim my username. I agree with you on everything you've stated--it feels odd and I don't like it much.

Who's to say that all the issues folks are having with LJ won't crop up with IJ once it gets bought out or whatever?

I like it here and I'm staying, though I may make forays over there once in awhile, though I must say that I miss the people who've gone over there "for good."

*dropping a line* ;)
