I have no idea... Canon never really mentions anything about religion among wizards, and we never hear the students say anything about it. The only thing I know about Catholicism in Britain is that after Anglicanism had been established, Catholics were not favourably looked upon - they were fiercely prosecuted at one time, not given civil rights at others, and even in the late 19th century there was some antipathy towards them, and suspicion that they were hatching plots to sell the Anglicans to Rome. As far as I know (but of course I'm not British), such feelings have died down now and Catholics aren't treated in any other way than Anglicans.
What I like about Catholicism, especially for Snape, is confession. He can get all his past misdeeds of his chest and start anew, provided that he shows remorse *g*.
