I am obviously a total idiot because I can't manage something as simple as stretching watercolour paper.

I want to stretch my paper to avoid it getting wobbly when I apply a lot of water. What I did was this:

- I saturated the paper with water by applying it with a sponge to the back of the page;
- I fixed the paper to a piece of hard board with special tape.
- The tape works a bit like stamps - it looks like paper; one side of it has a shiny film on it; when you make it wet, it sticks.

So far so good; BUT - when the page was dry and I wanted to remove it from the board, I couldn't remove the tape and my paper ended up very damaged.

What's the deal with that tape? I thought that normally, I was supposed to leave the paper stuck to the board while painting. It's a good thing I didn't do that, because I would have ruined my painting. Am I supposed to cut the paper loose and then cut off the parts that have tape on them? Or is there a nice, clean way to remove the tape which my stupid brain obviously hasn't wrapped itself around?

If you know how this stuff works, PLEASE leave me a comment. I feel perfectly miserable right now :(.
