Tuesday, 8 November 2005 10:21 amIt’s ages ago since I last posted a page of my comic, so I’ll try to remedy that today… I can well imagine that you have forgotten what the first one looked like (I can’t blame you), so if you should like to refresh your memory, you can find it here.
Actually it’s quite terrible how I make you wade through all my ramblings before you get to the promised candy :-). I’m wicked, but I’m not about to change my ways.

5. Me and my Page
Most European comics are basically made by two people: the writer and the artist. That means that the artist is usually responsible for the entire look of the comic. S/he does the pencils, inks, colours (if any) and lettering. There are also quite a few that are made by one creator alone. When I discovered American comics (about two years ago – they are not very widely available around here and I’d never come across any before I got to know my friend Nout of
bettyboop_comic, who sells them), I was amazed to see that there the standard practice is to have a writer, a penciller, an inker, a colourist and a letterer! It seemed unnecessarily complicated, and in the end, ‘whose’ comic is it? In Belgium, only the very largest and most popular comics are made by an entire team – they are Suske & Wiske (by Studio Vandersteen) and Kiekeboe (by Merho) – and even those are published under the name of their original creator alone, though that seems hardly fair.
