Drawing, drawing
Thursday, 3 November 2005 01:22 pmAs if I haven't got enough to do, I've decided to submit something to the Deathday Festival at Sycophant Hex. It will be art, this time.
The latest SH Festival is ... well, strict, or so I think. There are NO original characters allowed, which I think is very, very harsh; and the art submissions are clearly designed to the exclusion of Snape (though I suppose you can get him into the Dumbledore + staff members picture if you really want it). Still, I have taken the hint and decided not to draw Snape at all. Instead I have chosen Luna Lovegood, whom I rather like. In fact, I like her so much that I have drawn her twice, though in a different manner. I'd love to post a preview because I'm very happy with how Luna's face turned out, but I'm not sure if I should, on account of the contest part of it all :-).
It feels very odd, the idea of submitting a drawing to a jury's scrutiny. I am much more self-conscious than I was with story submissions (I seem to recall); somehow I am under the impression that it's much easier to spot flaws in a picture than in a text. Also - but this may be complete nonsense - I have the feeling that it's even more personal than a story, where you can hide behind a narrator and a focaliser. Maybe the element also plays that you can be schooled to become an artist, whereas you can't be schooled to be a writer (at least not in my country), which means, to my mind, that whereas I am obviously an amateur in the former discipline, it is easier to claim a degree of professionalism in the latter.
So I'm just scared.
On a different note: I know it's high time I posted Page Two of my comic, but I still need to scan the sketches. No promises, but I'll try to write an entry this weekend.
Meanwhile I wish
larilee a very happy birthday! ::hug::
