Gawain: the comic 10-12

"She joyed in bending and warping men to her will through beauty and enchantment, and when these failed she used the blacker arts of treason and murder. It was her pleasure to use men against men, fashioning from their weaknesses weapons for their strength."
- John Steinbeck, The Acts of King Arthur and his Noble Knights (1976)

This is one of the main problems I have with the impromptu sketch formula: as soon as there is a reasonable amount of dialogue, I have trouble placing my text bubbles properly. When I pencil, I make sure the text doesn't hinder the drawings and the other way around. When I ink directly, like I do here, I have to do the text bubbles before I do anything else, and sometimes they could to with erasing and relocation. Meh.

Well, that's a draft for you. In any case: the story continues.

As usual, concrit is welcome :).

What went before:
King Lot has brought his son Gawain to the Valley of No Return at the request of Morgana the Fay. He hands the child over, but he has a demand of his own to make. See how Morgana likes that...

I love this. It's so engrossing and funny. I'm rejoicing that you are working on the story, even at this level. Lot - what a scoundrel!

(I didn't even notice the word bubbles. I'm probably not a source for concrit. Erm... I did notice the way you colored Morgana's lips in several panels. The use of color and the partial lines drew my eyes right to her lips. I liked that, but, who knows, I might be wrong in my perception of what's good in a drawing.)

I'm rather enjoying the Two Colours thing, so I'm very happy Morgana's lips make an impression :). And yes, Lot is a terrible scoundrel. I just love writing him *g*.

Squee, squee, squee! I'm so happy you like the story. It's making me nervous though. I don't want to mess it up :).

I can't keep my eyes off your icon! It's lovely.

speech bubbles? Uhm...
I LOVE your Morgana! Squee.

Morgana is rather upstaging Lot and son, isn't she? I'll have to take care that things don't fall flat when she's out of sight...

I'm squeeing out loud because you're enjoying this :D.

I had a childish moment, I'll admit - where I lit up and went "EEEE - SEXING!"

....definitely a sign i'm enjoying the ride! :D

LOL! I'm very glad about that :D.

You have just reminded me of something. I had foreseen some more explicit scenes in the future, which I suppose means that I'll have to add warnings for adult content and such and walk on tiptoe for LJ. Ergh. What a bore.

Anyway - I'll tell the story I want to tell, nah.

[identity profile] death-ofme.livejournal.com 2009-02-08 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you know that's the way to keep a view interested xD (I'm just kidding, I'm enjoying the whole thing, I never knew much about Sir Gaiwan even when I was obsessed with Arthurian legend).

So long as you put things under cuts LJ can't do much. After the last huge bout of wankery that went around, they loosened up a bit on the enforcement of their TOS and stuff.

I think this is the point where I can second all the squees and - uh, squee: I love this story! And I definitely want to read on. :) But what am I saying - you had already captured me with the first page.

Hee hee hee... I'm giggling like a completely silly person here. It's just really great to hear that people are enjoying this :D. And getting nervous about living up to expectations... *g*

Thank you!

These comment threads always read like '60s love-fests don't they?
Looking good & on track. One would almost say Morgana's being on the verge of clichéd with her handling of Lot, but that by no means signifies I don't like it.
On the 1st of these 2 pages, I did tend to read the big panel below before the second small panel... didn't happen with the previous pages...

I had the same thing with the panel, even though I drew the page myself. So yes, definitely an issue. That's what happens when you just draw on and on instead of laying things out properly :)... In any case, it's noted.

As long as by "clichéd" you don't mean "stale", I'm untroubled :). I think that a character like Morgana comes with a set of expectations. If she doesn't upset a single one of those, the author should wonder whether s/he has anything to say at all; but if Morgana doesn't live up to enough of them, readers may well wonder why she's called Morgana. There's going to be more of that with other characters too. They all have such a rich history, and I'm definitely not going to dispense with all of it. Just warn me if I wander off too far :)...

As for my 60s love fests: why not simply confess that you're jealous?
;P

You got me, pardner!
Terribly jealous of internet-love, that's me!
Your other point about Morgana: that's why you have the PhD & I am merely me. This is going to be some story!
(see, now even I'm doing it!)

This is coming along really nicely and holding my interest. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back here!

*finally back at catching up*
*ggg* Gawain, the little rascal! I love how Morgana acts towards Lot, and love her facial expressions.
