Art: Nineteen Years Later (G)

I am adding the final touches to a short Snape/Brynhild fic for the current challenge at [livejournal.com profile] romancingwizard, as well as working on a rewrite of my pre-DH post-HBP Snape family saga, and all the Snape shipping on my mind finally got me to draw a picture of which I had been thinking for a while - a joint portrait of Snape and Brynhild's children *g*. Here they are, nineteen years after Voldemort's defeat: Alba and Alexander Snape.

Nineteen Years Later

If I had invented the Snapelings after DH, I don't think I would have had Snape and Brynhild call their firstborn Alba, but up to HBP it still looked as though Dumbledore had been a kind of substitute father to Snape... Ah well.

Snape wishes that his daughter would stop smoking, but as he keeps smoking himself, Alba does not feel obliged to listen to him. He also wishes that his son would wear his hair short, but as he wears it long himself, Xander thinks there is no reason to obey.

This was done with Faber-Castell PITT pens, Tombow markers and Koh-I-Noor watercolour pencils.

Oh, fabuLOUS! I particularly love Alba's striped stockings and boots. Alexander is wonderful as a youthful and non-bitter version of how Snape might have looked under better circumstances, but with all his intensity.

I think one of the main differences is that Xander didn't grow up poor and underfed... He's more like his mother in his attitude to life as well.

...I have no idea why I know all these things. I'll probably never use them XD!

These things are good to know! :D They just are!

That's what I thought too, that he was basically the spit of his father. Well, with a perm. ;)

I love his cloak/mantle/coat-thingy, too.

Hey, that's not a perm! He just has his mother's crazy hair. At the front of his head he smoothes it down with SleakEasy :P.

The coat was a spur-of-the-moment thing. It was going to be an ordinary trenchcoat, but I thought this one was nicer *g*.

This is fantastic! Alba's still stunning in red, and I like that they both have Brynhild's curls. Xander's topknot is particularly cool.

I like the echoes of both parents here. Xander,in particular, looks like Snape without the biiterness--but he also strikes me as being a touch more masculine than his father. Maybe it's because Alba's the one who inherited her father's taste in shoes? ;-)

Oh, wait a minute! I never made Snape wear stilettos, you must be confusing me with someone else! ;P

...Nah, I know. Alba is closest to her father in terms of character as well. Xander is more relaxed and confident.

It's fun to imagine the younger generation. Almost makes me understand why JKR wrote the Epilogue ;-)...

Thanks! They are such fun to imagine, to give a style and such :-).

I love Alba! She has this snape-ish thing about her which makes you sense the personality under the surface. I like how they look so much like their parents but still are different; I've always been fascinated by your pictures of Brynhild, I'm almost more so by this one of Alba. :)

Squee! It's always wonderful to hear that original characters don't disappear in Snape's shadow :D. They are fun to work on, and I always grow to like them very much.

Thank you!

Very nice! I love how you've used just one colour to go with the black & white. I think those two would be a force unto themselves! They look a bit rebellous. Love, LOVE their clothes. Where can I get her boots??!

;-)

Oh yes, those two are not exactly easy on their father... I'm sure that between the ages of fourteen and twenty they have given him a lot of grey hairs :P.

Thank you!

I try ;-)...

I think of Xander as more sedate and quietly confident than his father ever was. He's more able to relax, like his mother. But hey, if I have it my way, Severus can still develop his potential in his mature age! :P

Looks like Snape got the kids he deserved!

I'm not sure you'll like this next comment, because I know your Snape is not Rickman!Snape, but Xander has a very Rickman-like posture.

Are you keeping Snape alive then? Good for you! I'll enjoy visiting your AU fics.

As for Alba, is her middle name Harriette or Potter?

[identity profile] sigune.livejournal.com 2008-02-28 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! I'm afraid it's Victoria... Poor Severus wouldn't want one of his children to remind him of the pesky Potter boy, and Brynhild wanted a say in the naming too. ("Alba" was Severus's choice, and Brynhild could choose the second name; with Xander it's the other way around. His second name is Severus.)

Yes, I have decided to keep Snape alive. His death doesn't make sense to me, and it's depressing too. I require at least one survivor from the Marauder generation, a chance for Snape to mature and get over Lily and build a new life, and a successful Slytherin way of life :-).

Oh, wow! It seems, as someone said above, that your Snape did indeed get the children he deserves. ;) I would not want to get in an argument with either of these two - especially Alba! I love both their clothes, especially Alba's bodice, and those stockings. A minor question - is Alba supposed to be taller than Xander, or is it just those heels? it looks as though they are standing on a slope, and he is 'uphill' from her.

But I don't know how to draw anything at all, and I really admire what you do. It's also really nice to see the kids. Will there be any stories about them as teenagers?
(I know, that's perhaps a lot to ask, with all your other projects. I've been following "War in Gaul" as well, and am also looking forward to more drawings of that.)

*g*
I can't promise you stories about the Snapelings as teenagers, but if I do get attacked by plot bunnies, I don't see why I wouldn't feed them ;-). The rewrite of the RPG material has priority now, fanfic-wise, and I still feel like writing something called Look At Me - a sort of behind the scenes of DH, preferably including Snape's teen years and his early history with Brynhild, but that looks like a huge project :D. We'll see. I always have an eye on "War in Gaul" as well, but it needs maturing, so I just act on the ideas tat come along :-). I'm really glad you are interested in it!

Alba isn't taller than Xander. Yes, she's wearing those heels, and she's also closer to the viewer than her brother. I *think* (but I'm bad at perspective, so I'm not sure I did everything right) that if they were made to stand right next to each other on a horizontal line, they would be more or less the same height, Alba with heels :-).
