yeah, I think so, too. as we know, it increased severus' feeling in hating james.. that he owed him his life. the poor fella :( even if snape'll be evil in the books and there is no further explanation for it, I'll stick to my theory that he's just like this because people made him this way. it's not like he had much of a choice (of course, you could say 'he shouldn't have gone to voldemort in the first place' - but looking at the way he got treated I don't really blame him for this decision).
