Last one for today, I promise :). On my Tumblr account, I offered to do prompts for Inktober, and here is the first, for [personal profile] cabepfir. She requested a character from Oscar Wilde. I came up with one she probably wouldn't have imagined, but there you go.

You don't really read Wilde for his characters, do you. Most of the time they are vehicles for particular ideas; they aren't really people of flesh and blood. Arguably the most complex of Wilde's characters is Herod in Salomé. Hence: my favourite.

I rather think he steals Herodias's eyeliner.

It bugs me that in the Richard Strauss opera, Herod is turned into a comical character. He isn't comical. If you make him comical, you haven't understood him. No really. You leave my Herod alone.

Today is Oscar Wilde's birthday!

And guess what: today, a film based on Wilde's fairytale The Selfish Giant wins the Ghent Film Fest.

Also on Wilde's birthday, for the doll fans among us: the pre-orders for these brand-new Irish Fairy BJDs starts.

Magic Mirror presents...

That can't be a coincidence. Oscar's star is shining bright! ;)

A century or something ago I posted this meme in which people could ask me to blog about something I don't usually blog about.

Now, as my new job has disastrous consequences on my leisure time and I don't get round to checking my private e-mail anymore, my journaling activities are at an all time low. But that doesn't mean I don't try to keep in the loop, and I do attempt to do something with all those hours I spend on the train. As I have no means to be on the Net while on the move, the best thing I can think of is to draw. The circumstances are not ideal, but I do manage more or less. In any case: the next entry in the meme blogging series is a picture, drawn on the train.

[ profile] ellecain asked, "What d'you think would happen if Oscar Wilde and Severus Snape met accidentally on the street?"

On 16 October, 153 151 years ago, Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin.

In Wilde's honour, let's all lie about our age today! When there are pink lampshades, you may lie a lot. The most convincing liar will be treated to virtual tea and muffins at the Manor House :-).

To get back my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early, or be respectable.

(I love that man... *g*)
