Writing meme :P

I write like
Oscar Wilde

I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!

This was the first result I got, feeding the first few paragraphs of my old fanfic Monkey Business into the thingy. But apparently, when I write fiction, I sound mostly like H.P. Lovecraft. I've never read any Lovecraft, so I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad :).

I'm doing my best to catch up on my flist and came across this meme a few times. So... Why not?

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So ask me something you want to know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

I always get the same result. The conclusion makes sense to me, but I'm so not a scientist. I can hardly count to ten!

By golly! And there I was thinking I'm a Ravenpuff!

Your result for The Sorting Hat Test...

You scored 50% Order/Chaos, and 44% Moral/Rational

Rationality with an orderly/chaotic split. What you strongly know is that you try to be rational, objective, and like to consider things as shades of gray. On order, you see the value of rules and organization but equally can become impatient and advocate a rather loose system. Your strengths arise from your ability to consider both radicals and straightlaced authority objectively; however, it can turn on you when others feel betrayed by the fact that there are few you support unconditionally and consistently.

The 4-grid I used to determine this is as follows:

Chaotic Orderly
Moral Gryffindor Hufflepuff
Rational Slytherin Ravenclaw

[livejournal.com profile] sylvanawood tagged me…

1. Select Random on your MP3 player/Windows Media.
2. List the first five songs and what they mean to you.
3. Tag five people!

I don’t have an MP3 player, and there is nothing uploaded to my Windows Media - for some reason, I always listen to entire albums, so I have never looked for a means to play songs randomly… But for the meme’s sake I picked up the top five CDs from the pile on my desk and picked one song from each. The result is a bit … eclectic :-).

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write attempt to write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear (err...), graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal if you are so inclined.

...I really didn't cheat. Honest!

Which literature classic are you?

Oscar Wilde: The Picture of Dorian Gray. You are a horror novel from the world of dandies, rich pretty boys, art and aesthetics, and intellectual debates between ethical people and decadent pleasure-seekers. You value beauty and pleasure but realize their dangers, as well.

Meme + Comic

Monday, 4 February 2008 07:44 pm
sigune: (Young Aloysius Crumrin)
Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] torenheksje:

Guess what: I'm working on a new short comic - not HP-related, I'm afraid, but something that is actually publishable, if a magazine will have it. I'm eyeing Plots, of course - the magazine formerly known as Het Salon. I wasn't too happy with how my previous submission was treated, but I have to face the facts: there just aren't a lot of alternatives as far as getting comics published is concerned. Besides, the Plots Team is more experienced now. They have just published and launched their fourth issue and have been very active on the comics front all year. In fact, as they have been getting more and more submissions, I will once again be nervous about getting accepted at all... But then again I too have learned and improved, so I think I should try my luck :-).

Making short comics is a difficult business, I find. It is not easy to tell a complete story in a mere few pages, especially for someone like me, who thrives on character development and is bad at plotting. A short comic requires a plot like a bullet, fast and compact. I am always at a loss for things like those, and that really annoys me, because if I want to draw any attention to myself at all, I have to be able to show samples of my work from time to time. My projects are always so huge that it takes ages until something is completed, and the important thing about a comic is the quality of the storytelling, not that of sketches and stills.

Yesterday I had a Eureka moment in the bath. I will be adapting a literary text, once more - a poem of sixteen lines with a complete plot in it :D. I do hope that I can pull it off... The sketching is fun, in any case.

Anyway: if I am quiet on the LJ front, you know what I am doing inbetween my jobhunting :P.

The original pages of my first published short comic, The Useless Resurrection, are on display in an exhibition that is shortly to go on a tour of comics shops in Flanders. At the moment it's on view in my hometown. See? It really is time I produced something new... And force the Plotsers to publish it... ;-)

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users (as of today). As usual, bold what you have read, italicise what you started but couldn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand. * - Read more than once. Underlined - On my to-read list.

Quirks Meme

I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] septentrion1970 to list 7 habits/quirks/facts about myself.

1. It is painful how quickly I forget the names of people I don't meet frequently.

2. Occasionally I dress up and take a stroll for no better reason than to show off my costume. I won't wear anything extravagant or odd; I will just be well-dressed, with perhaps a hat or a cane as a somewhat more unusual detail. But most of the time I hate drawing the attention of strangers. I could never be a true dandy because I am painfully natural.

3. I collect beautiful umbrellas.

4. I once wore a ring worth 25 000 Euros - that's about $35 000 or £17 500.
Well... )

5. I like to sing songs to my cat. I make them up as I go. They are pretty horrible.

6. I don't idolise any celebrities. I would never go out of my way to see an actor/actress, a singer or a musician. I am totally uninterested in asking anyone's autograph. On the other hand I adore a number of dead or fictional people. I would LOVE to have an autograph of Oscar Wilde, and I go on pilgrimages to places connected with him. I HATE books or films that paint a negative picture of Sir Gawain. Nobody touches Sir Gawain. I mean it.

7. In November I'm going to see Wagner's Siegfried. It will be the first of Wagner's operas that I will go to in the firm knowledge that I'll adore it. Previously I invariably entered the opera house with the suspicion that I might want to leave during the break, though in the end I never did feel like leaving.

Many of you have already taken the meme, so I'm not tagging anyone.

What fictional character do I most remind you of? Take a stab at it.

(According to this meme's rules, I should answer the question in return when you post this in your journal, but I have to warn you that I'll fail abysmally at it. I can think of very few people who remind me of fictional characters at all XD.)

Old and New

Wednesday, 3 January 2007 11:13 pm
sigune: (Default)
Happy New Year all! I hope you had a great start... Mine included a set of five paint brushes, squee! :D

I'm a bit late with my first entry for 2007, but then I am slow always, so I am just being characteristic; besides, I never make New Year's resolutions, so why pretend that I have changed ;P?

The Old

Below is my review of 2006 in terms of art, as I posted nothing more than a paltry two drabbles on the fic front. - Wait, scratch that: there was the gigantic (well, it's nothing compared to what [livejournal.com profile] valis2 gets up to, but still) opus consisting of the [livejournal.com profile] pr_snape and [livejournal.com profile] pr_brynhild journals, but somehow they don't seem to count quite as much as archive-posted stuff would, and I tend to forget about it. Um. Still: art.

Art Meme )

The New

Because I like to start with a clean slate from time to time, and because the start of a new year is as good an occasion as any, I would like to declare a (de)friending amnesty. If you have friended me at some point during the past year but are no longer sure why you did so, then please go ahead and defriend me.

On my end of the line, I think it might be a good thing to trim my flist a bit because, although I often do no more than lurk, I do try to keep up with what everybody is writing. That is becoming harder and harder as the list grows, and so I thought I would remove a few people who have never made themselves known or otherwise sought contact. If you are one of those, and feel it would be a grievous loss to disappear from my flist (I think the only thing you'd miss out on is, like, news about my cat *g*), then please leave an alarm message below.

For the relatively new who have only a very foggy idea about the person in whose lair they have landed, there is a slightly adapted friending thingy below the cut: Sigune in a meme )

I snatched this from ... everybody. It's just too much fun not to have one :D! Now excuse me while I go around the flist and add something (unfortunately very short - why only 30 characters?!) to people's loot...
